Day 1: Arrival in Tbilisi
Meeting at the airport, transfer, accommodation in a hotel, walk through the night Tbilisi.
Day 2: Tbilisi – Mtskheta – Svetitskhoveli – Jvari – Tbilisi
Mtskheta is one of the oldest cultural and religious centers of Georgia. On the way, stop at the monastery Jvari (Cross Monastery), located on the top of a hill and built in the 6th century. Day 3: Tbilisi – Gori – Uplistsikhe – Mestia
At 09:00 departure to Gori. Here you will find an excursion to the Joseph Stalin Museum, which has more than 60,000 artifacts from the life of the leader of the USSR. The museum also owns the famous armored train, where Stalin traveled to the Yalta and Potsdam conferences. Then you will go to Uplistsikhe, a cave-fortress city, carved into the volcanic cliffs of the Kvernaki ridge. Uplistsikhe was a cult temple settlement, a major pagan center before the adoption of Christianity by Georgia. The fortress city fascinates with its unusual appearance. Like gigantic pores on the rocks, cave grottoes are gaping, inside of which life once boiled. The day ends with a trip to Mestia. Overnight in Mestia.
Day 4 – 5: Mestia – Ushguli – Tetnuldi – Hatsvali – Mestia
Meet Mestia – it was the cultural and religious center of the mountain Svaneti. The village has a historical and ethnographic museum where unique icons and manuscripts, a museum house and a bust of the native Mestia, famous mountaineer M. Khergiani are kept (buried here). A few dozen medieval Svan stone houses with guard and residential towers have been preserved in Mestia. Ushguli is a Svan community in Mestia district, consisting of four villages: Zhibiani, Chvibiani, Chazhashi and Murkmeli. At an altitude of 2,200 m above sea level, Ushguli village is considered one of the highest permanent settlements in Europe, according to some European definitions. The architectural ensemble Ushguli is a valuable architectural and historical monument, largely due to which Upper Svaneti was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The village has preserved traditional Svan houses-towers. On the hill near the village of Zhibiani there is the Church of Our godmother st.Maria, built in the 11th century. Overnight in Mestia.
Day 6: Mestia – Zugdidi – Martvili
From Mestia, you will continue the tour in the direction of Zugdidi. You will visit the patrimonial palace of the Megrelian princes Dadiani. Known for its garden, for the creation of which the ruler of Megrelia, Princess Dadiani, invited famous European gardeners in the middle of the 19th century and wrote out rare plant varieties from Europe. Today, Dadiani Garden is a Zugdid botanical garden. Heading to Nokalakevi. In this place since ancient times was located the Georgian city. Greek authors called it Archeopolis, but in the older Georgian chronicles the city was known as Tsikhe Goji. The city was founded in the III century AD. From Nokalakevi we will move to the Martvili canyon. Martvily canyon or, as it is also called, Gochkadili canyon is one of the most amazing places not only of Samegrelo, but of all of Georgia. Day 7: Martvili – Kutaisi – Borjomi
From Martvili we will go to Kutaisi. You will visit the Gelati Monastery, which was founded by King David IV the Builder in 1106 and became his tomb. The cathedral church was built before 1125 and for five more years it was decorated with mosaics that are revered by the best in all of Transcaucasia. From Gelati, we head towards Prometheus Cave. The cave was discovered on July 15, 1983, although the entrance in the form of a large arch was known for a long time. Since 1985, the cave has been reequipped for a guided tour. The total length of the cave is about 11 km, of which 1060 m are open to visitors. The cave canal is wide, richly decorated with streaks. The floor is clay. The maximum height of the arch is 21 m, the constant air temperature is 15-17 ° C. Overnight in Borjomi.
Day 8: Borjomi – Akhaltsikhe – Vardzia – Tbilisi
Borjomi resort is located at an altitude of 810-850 m above sea level. Borjomi is surrounded by mountain ranges covered with coniferous and deciduous forests. Borjomi is known for its healing mineral water. Archaeological excavations have found stone baths here, which indicates that the healing properties of mineral water were known and used in ancient times. In the Borjomi gorge there are over 200 historical monuments: fortresses, churches, monasteries. After walking along Borjomi, we will visit Akhaltsikhe, where you will discover Rabati fortress. The name of the fortress comes from the Arabic word meaning “fortified place”. The old stone fortress of Rabati stands on a small hill on the very bank of the Potskhovi River. Next stop is the cave city of Vardzia. Over 900 meters along the left bank of the Mtkvari, up to 600 rooms are carved into the sheer wall of the mountain: churches, chapels, living cells, storerooms, bathhouses. The premises of the complex go 50 meters deep into the rock and rise to a height of eight floors. Preserved secret passages linking the premises, the remains of the water supply and irrigation system. Day 10: Tbilisi – Sighnaghi – Bodbe – Telavi – Tbilisi
We will continue the trip to Kakheti, to the city of love – Sighnaghi, which in the Middle Ages was one of the most important trading points on the Silk Road, surrounded by a fortified wall with 23 towers. On the way, stopping at the monastery complex Bodbe, where St. Nino was buried, who brought Christians to Georgia in the fourth century. Next we will go to Telavi. There were shooting the legendary movie “Mimino”, which captures the monument to Erekle II. you will visit the museum-fortress Batonis-Tsikhe in the center of Telavi. Day 11: Tbilisi – Ananuri – Gudauri – Kazbegi – Tbilisi
At 08:30 we will start our trip to Ananuri, where we will visit the architectural complex – the former residence of the princes Aragvi. The churches and medieval towers of Ananuri rise majestically above the Zhinvali lake, surrounded by the slopes of the Caucasus Mountains. We will visit Kazbegi. Upon arrival, change the car to an SUV and climb to Gergeti Trinity Church, located at an altitude of 2170 meters above sea level. In good weather, you can enjoy the fascinating view of the famous Kazbek mountain. Also, you will visit: Zhinvali reservoir, panorama of friendship, the place, where meet two rivers, white and black Aragvi, the resort of Gudauri and Darial Gorge. Return and overnight in Tbilisi.
